move pool table

Playing a few rounds of pool with your friends over a beer after a busy day is something that most like, but only a few have the privilege of owning a pool table and equipment. If you are one of the lucky people to own a pool table setting, then you will be very popular amongst your friend group and almost all parties would be at your place. All of this is fun, but what happens when you are moving houses? A slate pool table can weigh over 300kgs and moving one is not as simple as packing a few boxes.

Here we will be taking a look at how you can move a pool table by yourself to your new abode.

The easy way

First, we will be taking a look at the easiest ways to move your pool table to the new place. The first option here would be to leave the pool table at the old house and sell it to the new owner. The second option is getting in touch with a removalist like Ace Movers to remove any worry from your shoulders and then move the table along with all the equipment with ease.

The hard way

If you have decided to move your pool table by yourself then there are a few things you need to keep in mind. The first is that you will be requiring a crew of friends along with a large vehicle like a truck to transport. After that, you also need to chart out a plan as to how you are going to get the pool table out of the house.

Disassembling your pool table

After getting everything arranged, you now need to start disassembling the pool table. This process will involve you removing the felt, rails, pockets and legs. To do so you will require a few tools, which include Needle-nose pliers, staple remover, socket spanners, drill, screwdrivers, and level measure. Apart from these, you will also be requiring packing material to safeguard all of the parts.

Start with removing the rails and the pockets, after which you will be able to see the staples that secure the felt, which can then be removed to get the felt off of the table. Now comes the difficult part of removing the slate. Remove this with the help of friends, and with utmost care. Slate is basically a soft stone and will chip easily. If it is wood or any other material, still be careful, as you do not want to damage the part and have an uneven table later.

After the slate is removed, you can then look to start removing the legs, which unscrew easily. The frame can now also be packed safely.

Now that the table is disassembled and packed carefully, you need to load it onto the truck and secure it to the truck’s body using straps and ratchets that you can get from any hardware store. After loading is done, the truck needs to drive carefully as all of the parts are extremely fragile and might get damaged with even small bumps.

When you get to the new home, you can simply start reversing what you did and slowly assemble the table back together.

What if the table does not weigh a ton?

If the table does not weigh too much you can then look to move it without disassembling it. But there are a few things that you need to keep in mind. These include the distance of the move, the access to the properties, and the amount of manpower you can arrange.

Once everything is sorted, you and your mates can place the table on its side and lift it. If you have a trolley or furniture sliders then the move will be easier. Get it onto the truck secure it to the body and slowly drive to the new place. Repeat the process to place it in the new place.
